Following are brief descriptions of last night's Bell family vigil, and the trial proceedings on Monday, March 24th, 2008 at court.
Monday 3/24 Morning Court Proceedings in Bell trial
Johnell
Hankerson, a friend of Sean Bell and brother-in-law of Nicole
Paultre-Bell, testified this morning as a prosecution witness. His
testimony included the fact that at no point did he hear police
identify themselves prior to their barrage of bullets. 2 of the
defense attorneys cross-examined Mr. Hankerson this morning. With
questioning ranging from the ridiculously mundane, to confusing to
bizarre, both attempted to continue the defense strategy of seeking to
criminalize Sean Bell and his friends as a way to discredit their
testimony and build a shaky argument of justification for the cops.
With the possibility of Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman taking
the stand this week or next, Peoples Justice urges our communities will
continue to show support to the Bell family and stand for justice by
coming out to court when possible. Peoples Justice will continue to be at court each Monday until the trial is over.
